At Brixton Cycles Club our aim is to offer a friendly and welcoming club riding experience.
We enjoy all types of riding: social cafe rides into the lanes (and abroad!), off-road rides on some local trails, urban hills rides in London, as well as track cycling, cyclocross, mountain biking, and Audax (we even organised our own this year!). Whatever adventure you’re up for on a bike, there’s something for everyone!
The club originates from Brixton Cycles shop, which is a worker’s co-operative. These core values are also at the heart of the club, and therefore all members have an equal stake and responsibility in how the club runs. We encourage all our members to support each other and share knowledge, so that everyone has the confidence to lead a ride, volunteer at our events or try a new discipline if they wish! Our relationship with the shop also means we have a strong connection with the community we were born from, and are committed to finding more ways to give back to this community.
We are predominantly a social club, but we have a big racing element: you’ll often see a healthy Brixton contingent at Herne Hill Velodrome during the track racing season, and we have a growing presence in cyclocross, MTB and circuit racing. You do not need to race in order to ride with us – but if you want to come down to a race to cheer on your teammates we can promise excellent vibes!
If you’re interested in joining us, we typically ask that you complete two ‘intro’ rides, one of which should be a 50-60km hilly lanes road ride. However, if you’re not into road riding that is fine! We also offer off-road/gravel intro rides and can discuss if you’re chiefly into other disciplines such as track or BMX. We also offer rides solely for women and riders who identify as non-binary.
We would love to hear from you!
