The Derwent Valley Wheelers was established in 1928 and has evolved via a change of name in the 1980’s to the Derwent Valley Cycling Club (DVCC). The cycling club is based at Cockermouth in Cumbria’s Lake District in the North of England, and presently has an active and above all friendly membership.
Derwent Valley covers an area from Threlkeld in the East, via Keswick to the river’s outlet at Workington and the cycling club is centred on the market town of Cockermouth. Our activities also take in the neighbouring Solway Plain and Eden Valley areas offering members some of the United Kingdom’s most stunning scenery, varied terrain and quiet roads on which to enjoy their cycling.
Cycling club members regularly participate in cyclo sportives, challenge rides and time trials in the UK, and frequently travel abroad for “raids” and cycling holidays in the sun. There is also a small but expanding group of mountain bikers, and a number of riders who do both depending on the weather.
We hold regular cycling club rides and social events and members communicate frequently via WhatsApp and the Facebook page to organise rides through the week. The cycling club is very family friendly, with a number of families and couples who either ride together or negotiate alternate weekends around child care.
