The Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club was formed over 40 years ago to promote the sport of BMX Racing in the area around Royston. Over the years, the Club has attracted members from across East Anglia and is widely recognised as one of the friendliest clubs in the country. The clubs race track is in Burns Road, Royston, which is easily accessible from the A505 Royston bypass. The clubs track was completely rebuilt in early 2013 with funding from the Sport England Inspire Fund and North Herts District Council so that it meets the current standards set down by British Cycling, and now always provides close racing, whatever the weather.
In 2015 the club was able to raise further sponsorship to have a high quality secure cabin installed on site. Another project, completed at the end of 2018 was an 80m tarmac training strip, laid beside the first straight .
The most recent project was the installation of fixed floodlighting to replace the portable lights that have been used in the last few years during the winter evening sessions. The club has also upgraded its technical equipment with a full MyLaps timing system in use for racing and training.
All these projects are thanks to funding from Royston Town Council, North Herts District Council, and many volunteer hours.
